Intelligent Workflow Management

The goal is to define intelligent workflow management techniques embedding a crossover between classical decision support systems and recent workflow management systems with the aim of defining patient-specific care plans. Intelligent workflow management techniques based on semantic web technologies and languages, intended as a viable mechanism for both representing and operationalizing domain knowledge, are being investigated to provide a process-oriented and knowledge-mediated solution to patient-centric healthcare.

Functionally speaking, for each individual patient, adaptive care plans are to be conceived and semantically-well defined through a systematic interplay between (a) patient information sourced from electronic health records; (b) best evidence manifested in clinical practice guidelines, (c) clinical pathways stipulating the care process, resource constraints and therapeutic costs.
